In Phoenix, a doctor who is based in Houston but has ties to the Phoenix area has been charged with assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute in their home earlier in August.

According to news sources, Dr. Michael Brown turned himself in to police on Tuesday to face felony charges of assault of a family member.

Brown, who is the founder of the Brown Hand Center in Phoenix, is well known in the Valley for commercials featuring his children and his wife.  It is reported that Brown forcibly twisted his wife's arm behind her back during an altercation concerning his alleged problem with alcohol.  The incident took place on August 13^th.

Brown has previously been previously convicted of assault against a family member in January 2002.

Last Friday, it is reported that a 17 year old girl died during what appears to be a domestic violence dispute.  Police say that the teenager was stabbed to death during the afternoon hours in a complex located near 25^th Avenue and Glenrosa. 

Police say that the young girls and her 26 year old boyfriend got into a physical fight.  During the altercation, the boyfriend supposedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his girlfriend.

The 17 year old tried to defend herself and police report that a 31 year old even tried to stop the fight.  The woman suffered minor cuts while trying to help the girl and then finally fled the apartment to call police for help. 

Officers say that the girl died as a result of her multiple knife wounds.  Her boyfriend was also rushed to the hospital where he also died.

Last month a Mesa, Arizona ex-con attacked his girlfriend after she refused to talk with him about their relationship. She had earlier discussed leaving him and in a fit of anger, he attacked her with a coffee pot then began slashing her with a box cutter.

Police were called to the scene after the woman escaped to a nearby apartment with her four-year-old daughter, who unfortunately had to witness the attack. Forty-seven year old Craig Vanderbeck was arrested a short time later that same afternoon.

The girlfriend survived the attack after surgery and will recover. Vanderbeck had previously served two years in prison in 2002 for another aggravated assault conviction.

A 20-year-old youth center worker will spend the next 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to arson and manslaughter.

John Antonucci started what turned out to be a deadly fire at the youth center where he worked in order to cover up evidence that he stole money from the center.  According to officials, Antonucci was a former employee of Young Champions for America, and was under investigation for embezzlement.

Jack Balentine of the Phoenix Fire Investigation Department said that Antonucci set the blaze with an accomplice who also worked at the youth center. Antonucci’s job was to stand outside and keep watch while the other man doused the building in gasoline and set it on fire. Authorities say Antonucci told them he heard a loud explosion while he was outside, and then saw his accomplice run out of the building on fire.

Instead of staying to help his friend, Antonucci fled the scene without calling for help. It was Antonucci’s accomplice, 28-year-old Josh Robinson, that died in the fire.
