17 Busted for Drug Smuggling in Arizona

Two agencies worked together to arrest 17 individuals suspected of smuggling and other drug crimes.

Reports indicate that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency worked with local police officers to deliver 17 arrest warrants in Southern and Central Arizona last week. Everyone arrested was suspected of being involved in a massive drug smuggling ring from Casa Grande.

Officials believe that the suspects worked together to smuggle drugs over the border via the West Desert and into Phoenix where the drugs are then distributed. This particular group is believed to have smuggled as much as 50,000 pounds of marijuana per month into the country.

In addition to the arrests, ICE and the officers collected 12 weapons, 1,000 rounds of ammunition and 935 pounds of marijuana, as well as $35,000 in cash.
