Remains of 16 Year Old Identified
The remains of a 16-year-old that were discovered back in 1992 have finally been identified by the Phoenix police.
Police hope that now that the girl has been identified as Shannon Aumock they will be able to generate some new leads, and possibly even an arrest. Her body was located on May 29, 1992 in a remote area near 20th Street and Deer Valley Road. Initial forensic analysis of the remains estimated the girl's age to be between 11 and 17 years old, yet since there were no matches to any dental records at that time police were unable to make a positive match.
When the Police Department's Missing Persons Unit reopened the case in last December they were able to make a positive ID. After sifting through 1,600 missing persons reports from that time period, Aumock was identified and her biological mother notified shortly after.
