Police Get Lead for 2006 Cold Case
In the city of Phoenix, police say that they may have finally solved a cold case murder that dates back to September of 2006. The victim of the case was Stephanie Trotter and police learned she was murdered after discovering her body wrapped in a blanket on West Baseline Road. After examining the body, it was determined that the victim had died from blunt force trauma to her head.
Following the discovery of her body, police interviewed a man by the name of Joseph Sesmas because he was spotted driving Trotter's car which had been reported stolen. During the interview, Sesmas denied knowing the female victim and police had little evidence to link him to the victim's death and disappearance.
Then, toward the latter half of 2010, police started to re-investigate the cold case's evidence and pursued their old leads. After speaking with numerous friends of the victim, they discovered that Sesma's original story was inconsistent and possibly inaccurate.
Police then decided to move forward and arrest Sesma for the murder of Trotter. They say that the motive for the killing remains unclear and that they will continue to investigate to gather more information.
