Businessman Netted Millions for Mail Fraud

The Associated Press has reported that in Salt Lake City, a local businessman is facing serious mail fraud charges as well as a detention hearing, which has been set for Wednesday in federal court.

The man, Jeremy David Johnson, happened to be transferring airplanes when federal agents apprehended him and placed him under arrest for white collar crimes. According to a complaint signed by a Utah magistrate, Johnson stands accused of sending software from his company through the mail to customers which offers a free trial. However, the software led to thousands of customers being billed online for products they never purchased.

When asked about the charges, Johnson denied any wrongdoing. In papers, it has been revealed that he is accused of false advertising and that he received millions in sales for the scam.

If he is convicted for his offenses, he could spend up to 20 years in jail.
