Police Locate Suspect for 2001 Murder Case
In Central California, police report that a man who was wanted for a 2001 murder has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service.
According to Police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson, the murder of 40-year-old Rishard LaPointe remained a cold case until it was reopened in fall of 2010. LaPointe had been stabbed to death inside of his Phoenix apartment.
Recently, investigators were able to identify 38-year-old Marc Salina as the murder suspect. They obtained a warrant for his arrest and charged him with the killing. It is believed that Salina was an acquaintance of LaPointe and is being held in the Merced County jail until he is extradited from California to Arizona.
Thompson said that Salinas took a bus from Phoenix to California immediately following the murder and has been living in the state ever since.
