Man Pleads Guilty in 2 Decade Old Kidnapping Case
The man charged with kidnapping and holding a young girl hostage for nearly two decades pleaded not guilty to his crimes this week.
This was a surprise to those familiar with the case, as prosecutor said that Phillip Garrido had already made a plea bargain to plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence. He has been charged with holding Jaycee Dugard captive since the age of 11, and then fathering two children by her in the following two decades.
His wife, Nancy Garrido, has also pleaded not guilty to the charges of kidnapping brought against her. Her next hearing is on May 5; she will go to trial on August 1.
The victim was taken from just a short distance away from her home on South Lake Tahoe street nearly twenty years ago.
