Father Steals Son's Identity
This week, news sources in Phoenix reported that a son had his identity stolen by his very own father.
According to a story from FOX 10, identity theft of a child is more common than most would think. Edward Goodman, an identity theft expert, said that parents may steal the identities of their children when they are having financial problems.
Goodman said, "They've got bad credit, maybe from a divorce, a bankruptcy or something else and they're main concern is how am I going to get power, how am I going to get utilities set up."
In order to avoid identity theft or to catch it early on, it is advised that people: lock up any financial documents, conduct their banking online and avoid paper statements, set up user profiles on their personal computers to prevent people from accessing their financial information and continually monitor their credit reports each month.
