Prosecutors announced last week Friday that a man from Phoenix Arizona has been sentenced to four years in federal prison after pleading guilty to felony crimes. The man, 25-year-old Aaron Curtis Rush, was charged with possessing bomb making components and illegal firearms.
Rush was sentenced to 48 months in federal prison after entering a guilty plea to charges that include unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was sentenced in a federal district court in Phoenix.
According to police, on July 10, 2009, Rush sold a Russian made handgun to a confidential source working with the FBI. However, Rush was prohibited from possessing any weapons because he had two prior hate crime felony convictions in the state of Wisconsin, as well as Illinois. In November 2009, the FBI executed a search warrant at Rush's residence. Inside of his home, they found another gun along with bomb components including a grenade like object that had been filled with gunpowder.
U.S District Attorney Dennis Burke said, "Rush is a dangerous man with a record of committing hate crimes... He's not allowed to possess weapons and never will be."
The case came to fruition after an investigation by the FBI.
